Illness and Medication
Short term medication cannot be
administered by staff. Staff cannot give
Calpol, antibiotics, cough mixture etc.
Please do not send medication into school
with your child.
Long term Illnesses
Children with long term illnesses such as
asthma, diabetes or epilepsy will require
a care plan agreed by the child’s parents,
the Headteacher and the school nurse for
the safe administration of their essential
medication.
If your child has a long term illness, please
inform the school office. In some cases you
may be asked to provide a note from your
family General Practitioner.
Inhalers
Children suffering from asthma, other
pulmonary or respiratory illnesses are
permitted to use inhalers.
Medicals
The nurse makes routine visits to school to
see the children. Every child is examined
by the school nurse soon after starting
school. You will be invited to come to this
important first medical. The audiometrician
and opthamologist visit the school annually
to test the children’s hearing. Dental
Screenings take place annually.
Water
In keeping with our Healthy Schools Award
we encourage children to drink more water.
Plastics cups are kept in each classroom
and children are allowed to get a drink of
water as required.
Health Initiative
As part of our Healthy Schools Initiative, we
are encouraging children to travel to
school on foot rather than by car. We take
part in the national Walking Week.
